LEVI
   Rescued by: Linnea

At 7 mos. Levi was returned to his breeders for failing to be a good hunting dog. Turns out Levi was perfect for couch luxury and countless miles of runs, hikes, snowshoeing trips and travel to many parts of the country!  Even at 12 he was running with me while I trained for the Ironman this summer.

Unfortunately cancer attacked his lungs and metastasized before we knew about it and also got to his spleen and abdomen. But he was mentally sharp and acutely aware of everything like all Weims until the end. This weekend it became clear he could no longer withstand the seizures that eventually robbed him of his ability to walk and run. We won't forget his velveteen-soft ears, how still he sat for his pedicures and his need to carry any and all socks back to his bed. My first Weimaraner, his gentle soul following me everywhere is deeply missed; hopefully he's not lonely now with all the other beautiful Weims that have passed over the Rainbow Bridge

Thelma

We do not have a photo of Thelma, though we surely wish we did.  We don't know how old she was when she was abandoned, but two wonderful ladies took her in and loved her until her last days.  They loved her totally and gave her heaven on earth for the months they had her.  Here is a little note from Thelma's adoring family:

Rescued by: Martha & Jane

Need to let you know how delighted we are with our new girl!  Gosh, we are so lucky!  Jane (my daughter) could hardly wait to get home from baby sitting and fell instantly in love with Thelma!  She is a wiggle wiggler and full of fun.  And she does not chase cats. All our Weimaraners were way too interested in the cats and our 13 month old pup liked to join right in on the chase - so everything is copesthetic.  Jane is convinced she is Maya's sister.  Actually she has more trouble jumping up on my bed than Maya had, but the doctor will look at her legs today.  At first she wouldn't eat our lamb & rice, but now she eats her whole bowl.  I may one day have to cut her back as she is a bit overweight. Anyway, she is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.  She is very well house trained and rides in the car wonderfully - in fact enjoys it. She is a little afraid of abandonment like Maya, but we are overcoming that too.
ps - her name is now Thelma, as Jane saw Thelmma & Louise on television while baby sitting.

July, 2007: Gordee was taken in and loved, but his life with his new mom was too short.  No one knew he was destined for the rainbow bridge so quickly and Gordee has now passed away.  The story below is all about how excited they both were to find each other and their first few weeks together.
F
LASH GORDON

   Rescued by: Leahanne, January 2006

I lost the love of my life, a blue weim Gus, to cancer in 2005.  I was heartbroken and certainly not ready for another dog.  I was receiving rescue messages regularly, but although my heart wrenched for every dog, I knew I just wasn't finished grieving for my dog . . . until the day I received a message about Flash Gordon.  I have no idea what made me want to meet him, but I did.  Off to the pound I went, but no Gordon.  I learned he was being fostered and arranged to meet him the next day.  Off to the pound again.  He was a handsome devil and very, very sweet although traumatized.  We hung out for the day, but I just wasn't sure I wanted to commit to another dog.  After some serious pressue from the staff, I agreed to adopt him.  He jumped into the car like he had been there before and off we went.

For the first few days I thought I had made a big mistake, not sure
that I could love him and care for him like I did for my other
dog.  But I hung in there.  For the first month he was an
absolutely perfect dog, no bad habits, no bad anything, I just could
not understand how someone could have just let him go and not
come for him.

After the first month (the honeymoon stage) he started to come into
his own.  He nibbled a few things when I wasn't looking, started to bark
(talk!) to me in a huge way, and all around started to be a dog again.

Well, here we are 10 months later and Gordee is a GREAT dog.  He is extremely                                 repsonsive and loves to please, loves to learn new tricks and walks great on a leash.  He                       is a big couch potato who hates to get wet!  He is happiest asleep ontop of me in bed or                      on his favorite couch.  He loves the car and barks every morning to go sit in his                                    4-wheeled "dog house".  He is a very, very handsome and he knows how to work it! (that                      weimer face can get anything).  He still hates cats with a passion and can be quite leash                         aggressive, which has been trying for me.  He gets along with his fellow family pack                              members, but he has no idea how to play "dog" games.  We are working hard at
becoming  a better dog and better owner!

I will never understand how anyone could have not claimed this majestic guy.  I guess we                    were meant to be.  I am so lucky to be able to share my life with another remarkable dog.

Crystal - 7 years old

Crystal has passed over the Rainbow Bridge.  After a few days of not feeling well, Laura had her examined and it was determined that Crystal had a very unusual condition that would require serious surgery with no guarantee of success. We are saddened that she passed, but glad she spent her last few days being fussed over and loved by Laura.

Crystal's Story:
We got Crystal after she was abandoned.  She was picked up by the shelter and had many scrapes and bruises.  We don't know what happened; if she had fallen out of a car, been hit by one, or worse.  True to her female weim attitude, Crystal thought all attention should go to her.  She became the doggie verision of a wedge if anyone was getting pets, hugs, or cuddles.
Crystal took her job as a watchdog very seriously and barked whenever strangers approached, but quieted down when told.
One of Crystal's outstanding features besides her lovely expressive face was her very soft, dense, healthy fur.  So soft to the touch, it was unusual to meet a weim with such a luxurious coat.  After healing from her injuries, Crystal began to shine.  She loved to be cuddled, petted, and wagged her tail a lot along with her beautiful big ears.

TAJ
     Rescued by: Josh & Stephanie
     August 11, 2007

Taj was seven years old. He spent most of his seven years with a family that we dont know much about, except that they had to place him due to work schedules changing. One of our foster homes found him on Craigs List and took him in. Taj was loved and kissed many times at Doreens house. Taj was adopted by people that did not really understand what it was like to have a Weimaraner and after six months in this home he came to Weimaraner Rescue.  Taj went to live with Josh and Stephanie while we looked for the perfect home for him. Taj, unfortunately, was the product of bad breeding and he had severe hip dysplasia, causing him to be in pain all the time. He had been allowed to become overweight which aggravated the hip dysplasia and Taj was compromised beyond help. Taj passed on being fully loved and adored by Josh, Stephanie and his dog sister Elle. The most beautiful thing about Taj was his love of life and love of his people and he truly lived in the moment. He was most happy leaning up on his people and having them pet and massage him. He loved any attention that he could get and especially loved his stuffed animals, which he carried around like a little baby. Taj, embodied what we all love about dogs and especially Weimaraners, the zest for life and their people. Thank you Taj for making our lives more full and showing us what living in the moment can really mean

LENNY
     Rescued by: Brett

I’ve been lucky enough to own a Weimaraner before and I always told myself I would get another one someday. I love animals and I routinely visit the Humane Society just to spend a little time with all the cats and dogs, but I always come out of there feeling very sad for all the animals that have to spend one day in captivity. I told myself my next dog would be rescued. In fact, I’ll never buy a pet again. There are plenty to be rescued so I started looking at my company’s internal classifieds for the pet I was going to rescue. That’s when I came across Lenny. He was a 7 year old Weimar who had come from a very bad situation and was running stray for who knows how long. His teeth were ground down from eating rocks and other things just to fill his stomach, he was about 16 pounds under weight when picked up by the pound, and he had to have some benign growths removed from his back and belly. Once I saw his picture I knew he was the one I was going to rescue. A very generous foster home had taken him in and brought him back to health.

It’s difficult to capture in words what Lenny has brought into my home. To me, a home without a pet is a home without a soul and Lenny has filled that void completely. Everyone that meets him is drawn to his unconditional friendliness. I’ve always loved animals, but I can honestly say I have more compassion for people, animals, and even plants than I ever had before. For that I give special thanks to Lenny and Leslie.

YANCY
     Rescued by: The Denniston's

It was wonderful sharing the last months of Yancy’s life with her.  She was so loving and had a good heart.  I’m sure she was happy with us, and had grown very attached to the entire family.  I always wondered what she would have been like in her younger years, when she was energetic and had endless energy.  Sadie misses her a good deal, and spent several days just lying on her side depressed.  She is starting to come out of it a bit, yesterday was her first willingness to fetch the ball, and play around a little.  She still looks for Yancy in the ya

Thank you for letting us be a part of this wonderful dog’s life.  It is amazing how quick and deep a dog can burrow into your heart.  We sure miss her and we are so grateful that we got to be her retirement home.
