RINGO
Rescued by: Cindy, Gary, & Payton, 2007

We are just delighted to have Ringo with us, he is such a good dog with quite the personality.  You said that he loves soft squeeky toys, so I bought him a stuffed opossum and squirrel for his enjoyment which he plays with every day.
Payton calls him a bed hog, which I admit he is, but he just wants to be as close as possible to his people.  He loves to be wherever I am because he follows me faithfully around the house, no matter what I am doing.

We simply love Ringo, and could not be happier to offer him a good home where he can feel secure and taken care of for the rest of his life!

Thank you again for letting us adopt such a special dog.

PHOEBE
Rescued by: Kim, 2007

Phoebe is doing great! She is such a lover. The whole family thinks she's terrific. She's just a typical weim puppy.
We took her for a two hour romp up at the tree farm this last weekend. She had a ball, but came home smelling like death
because she found some god awful thing to roll in. She's been sleeping in the crate at night, and goes in there at various
times during the day. She's had a few accidents in the house, mostly due to her excitement.  Not a huge deal. The other dogs
are getting used to her, and she is just as sweet as can be. We're really happy with her. She does well in the car, although I
haven't left her in the car alone (like when I go into a store) yet. I want to feel a little more confident in trusting her not to
pee all over the leather upholstery.
She is happiest when she is either at full throttle running around outside, or when she is snuggled up with me on the bed.
She likes to nap on my lap while I watch t.v. at night.
BOSCO
    Rescued by: Lane, January, 2006

I can't tell you what a great addition Bosco's been to our family.  I had wanted a Weim for a long time, but not wanting to train a puppy and go through the puppy years with a young family, I was thrilled to find out about Oregonweimrescue, and get a chance to give a good home to one of these wonderful animals.  Boz, as we call him, has been part of our family only a week now, and I can't remember what it was like without him.  He's quickly become my 4 year old daughter's snuggle companion for mid-day cartoons, my wife's shadow, a vacuum to follow behind my 16 month old, and my partner for John Wayne movies in the evening.  If I could figure out how to teach him to drink water without leaving a 30 foot trail of evidence in the house he'd be perfect, but who really wants that anyway, its part of his boyish charm.  I can't wait to see how he works pheasants in the field, but given his reaction to critters around my property, I don't expect to be disappointed.  Thanks for all you folks do to rescue and care for these great dogs.  Give our best to Catherine and a big thank you for caring for him until he found us.

COBALT
      Rescued by: February 2007

Cobalt is doing extremely well and has really made himself at home. He is an expert sunggler!  He is very smart and is training nicely. His worst habit is probably bringing in lots of plants, sticks, and mud from outside, but that doesn't bother us too much.  He and our dog Peri have been playing, and he is very sweet to our baby Gabby. Cobalt has an amazing appetite and is getting big fast!

KARLA

Rescued by: Justin, Krislyn, and family, March 2007

We love Karla!  We met Karla through Doreen and fell in love with her.  She is very sweet and calm.  We are a family of 5 with 9, 7, and 4 year old children and Karla is amazing around them.  We took Karla for a walk to the park and played.  We all look forward to having Karla as a family member.  She is doing great.  She just had her first check up. No cancerous tumors, just fatty desposits.  They found two of them.  She had her nails clipped and weighs 74 pounds.   They would like to see her at an even 70.  Thank you!

MADISON
Rescued by: Ashlee & John, February 2007

Maddie is doing great!!  She has adapted to our house really well!  She has been great with the cats, they actually have started playing together :)  We are so so happy with her, and she is so well behaved for her age.  Here are a couple pictures of her in her new home with her new kitty friends.  I will continue to keep you updated on Madison and send pictures as she grows into a "big girl."
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt such a wonderful girl!

SKYY
Rescued by: John, Tammy, and Gage, January 2007

What a blessing Skyy is.  She is a lot of fun.  Today was her first day downstairs with our families coming in and co-workers coming in and out, and everyone loved her.  She is a very beautiful Weimi and reminds us a lot of Annie.  She seems very eager to please and wants to know what we are doing at all times.  She sleeps next to our bed and wakes me up if she needs to go outside.  Thank you for putting us together with Skyy.  She seems extremely happy and so are we!

GEM
Rescued by: Dan, Ellen, Katrina, & Mia, November 2006

As promised I took Gem out hunting on Wednesday afternoon at a local site where pen
raised pheasants are released by the state for hunting.  We hunted for over an hour in some
good looking cover.  Gem worked fairly well.  We headed back toward the car because we
were running out of daylight.  We went down into a deep hole with a large pond in it and
hunted the edge.  We were hunting along, Gem almost right next to me when I looked over
and saw her on a perfect point!  She held the point perfectly until I released her - she has no obedience skills but she knows hot to hold a point!  She went a few feet and pointed again.  I released her again and she ran a few more feet and flushed a rooster!  It flew uphill, I shot it, and she ran right to it and picked it up and ran over the hill.  I have experience with dogs picking up birds and running around with them for a while, so I wasn't too concerned.  As I climbed up the hill toward her, another rooster jumped up and was promptly shot. Amazingly, I killed both birds!  It took me a few seconds to round up that bird, but I did and crested the hill.

When I got to the top, Gem and her bird were nowhere to be seen.  I could see at least a mile in every direction.  This was what I was afraid of!  I looked around and called for her, and freaked out for about 15 minutes wondering what I was going to do if I couldn't find her.  Finally, she appeared a couple hundred yards away . . without the bird ofcourse.  I figured she was hunkered down behind some sagebrush somplace eating that bird!

So you're right . . . her retreiver skills definitely need some honing!  Speaking of which, we're enrolled in an obedience class starting Monday night.  Bottom line is that I was very, very happy with her pointing skills.  I give her a solid "A" for pointing.  For retrieving she earns a "D+" because she actually did go right to the bird & pick it up, so she avoids failing in that category!

Sorry that we still don't have any pictures of Miss Gem and our family.  We tend to be a bit slow about such things.  She's really doing great though!  We've been homeschooling Gem and she's proven to be an outstanding pupil.  She now knows her name, knows "Sit" and "Here."  I think "Stay" is gonna take outside help though

She still craves a lot of attention and is super klutzy on furniture--she falls off and does silly things like trying to put all four paws on the very top of the couch like a cat!  She's really a goof!  But we really love her energy.  Much like our beloved dearly departed Jazzy, she's a really nice person.  While he had a different personality, something about Gem really reminds me of Jazz.  So all is still well.  Hope you're winning the fight for homes for weims.

Thanks for all you do for the displaced Weims of the Northwest!

CODA
Rescued by: Jeff, Kendyl, Coltan, and Cameron, October 2006

We wanted to update you on Coda's transition.  We are SO pleased with how she has done! It has been so smooth and she seems to have bonded with us all. She is getting SO much love and attention, and hopefully that has helped her to adjust.  She is amazingly calm compared to what we experienced with Cooper . . . Horray!  She loves snuggling with the kids and other than the occassional reminder to stay off the couch, she has been perfect (and even with an "off" she gets right down and gets on her blanket).  She is in our bedroom so she is nice and comfy.  She seems to enjoy long walks, running around the backyard, hardly barks, and has not jumped on any of us or the visitors that come to meet her.  We even took her to Connor's soccer game where she laid in the grass . . .WOW!  Thanks again for helping us find our new family member . . . we look forward to many years with Miss Coda!
Rocket surveying his territory from the bedroom window

ROCKET
Rescued by: Brian & Karen, 2002

I had seen pictures of Rocket posted on one of the Weim lists, seems his owner had passed away and the wife couldn't keep him.  We needed another dog like a hole in the head, but when I saw his picture it reached out and grabbed my heart . . . I had just started doing rescue in Arizona for about a year, seen a lot of sad stories, but something
about Rocket . . . .The wife and I discussed adopting him,
yes, he was older, yes, it was a long distance, yes, we already
had two dogs . . . why did we need a third?  We decided that
we'd adopt him if he hadn't been spoken for after her trip
with the daughter.

So . . . while Karen was out of town with the daughter, I
emailed Catherine and said we'd take Rocket . . . jumped the
gun a bit, but hey, he needed a home!  LOL!  At first, we
were a bit concerned, Rocket is very vocal, loves to bark, he
barks for food, barks to play, barks at noises, barks to talk to
 you . . . and his bark sounds pretty vicious . . . took us a day
or two to realize he just has a lot to say!  His first night,
jumped right up in bed with us, which thoroughly ticked off
our female Weim.  She thought the bed was her sole territory, but Rocket and Sophie came to a truce, she got the pillows and the top of the bed, he got the foot.  Rocket became fast friends with Tess, our husky mix, as soon as she figured out if he barked, they all got cookies . . . so she takes her paw, rpods him until he barks, and they all get a treat!

Within a couple of days we realized Rocket purrs . . . like a cat . . . you pet him and he loves the touch and purrs accordingly . . . very cool!  He was supposed to be a man's dog . . . . HA!  He attached himself to my wife so well, he's a true momma's boy . . . he'll "make do" with me only if she's not home . . . traitor . . . LOL!

So many people are hesitant to adopt an "older dog" . . . we've had Rocket now for four years, wouldn't trade a day of it and would do it again in a heartbeat.  There is something about adopting rescue dogs, they know how bad it could be . . . and are ever so grateful to be rescued . . . nothing like the love they can give you.  A huge thank you to Leslie & Catherine for rescuing this guy and letting us adopt him, he's a true joy!

CLAUS
   Rescued by: Pam

Well . . . where should I start . . . Claus is the biggest bed hog ever.  Crate . . . I don't think so!  He decided the bed is where he belongs.  So every night that is where he is now.  Thank goodness he learned to sleep in a crate because he can roll up pretty small and not take as much space up!  He is doing great.  Everyone is still getting adjusted, but there have been no inceidents.  Claus doesn't seem to mind when we got to work, eats well, seems to be adjusting to everything, although there didn't seem to be any adjustment period.  He just semed to go with the flow like it was just natural.  He has a great personality and is just a big loud baby boy who is spoiled rotten.  Thanks again for such a wonderful friend, he will always be loved and well cared for!!!  I hope Mona is doing well also and that she too has found her forever home like Claus AKA Gray Man.

Riddick & Riley

RILEY
Rescued By: Heather & Andy, August 2006

We rescued Riley about two months ago and he has been
a wonderful addition to our family ever since.

We already had one male Weimaraner, Riddick, who is a year and a half.  So Riley seemed like the ideal playmate for our rambunctious pup.  At first, Riley was a little unsure of his new, energetic, and clumsy friend, but they have quickly become inseparable.  They love cuddling on the couch together, sticking their heads out the car window, chasing each other around the backyard, but more than anything they love ganging up on the stuffed toys and playing tug-o-war until there is stuffing everywhere.

I was apprehensive about having two large dogs but that quickly disappeared
when I realized how much easier it was.  Not only are they much more self
entertaining, but they really enjoy going places and doing things.  We take them
everywhere with us, camping, hiking, swimming at the river, boating, biking, and
even just for a car ride.  They are great dogs for us, because as much as they
love running and being active, they are just as content snoozing and cuddling
with us on the couch.

When we first brought Riley home, we noticed that he was very timid and shy.  He wasn't as well socialized as our other Weim, and even seemed fearful of other people and dogs.  Since then, I have brought him to work with me everyday, taken him out in public as much as possible; visits to the dog park on a regular basis and enrolled him in obedience classes.  Even in this short amount of time the difference is noticeable.  He still barks at people who will walk past our house, but he has started to venture away from me at the dog park and even played a little bit.  He is starting to gain his confindence and even finished first in his basic obedience class.  We will be starting intermediate obedience in a few weeks and I think he will really excel at it.  Who knows, maybe one day you will even see him in the obedience ring.  We are so proud of the progress he is making and can't wait to see how he will do in the future.

Adopting Riley has been a wonderful thing for our family and I couldn't imagine not having him in our lives.  We may be his third family, but he has finally found his forever home.  We owe so much to the people who put together the Weimaraner rescue.  It is their care and effort that make owning a rescue Weim so special.  Thank you.

Heather, Andy, Riley, and Riddick

LOGAN
Rescued by: Linda & Grant, 2007

We are so in love with Logan!  He is a very smart, good little guy.  Potty training is going pretty good.  We've had a few accidents but those were our fault for not recognizing the signs.  He does come to me when he needs to go out.  He is eating well.  We have been going to a park with our friends and their 3 dogs.  He has been running off leash and coming when called (most of the time!)  We are amazed at how well he has adjusted.  He just loves running free and we have so many places where he can do that.  I still need to work on leash training, but that will come.  He is good staying home by himself and does not seem to stress out.  He is very calm, not too much bothers him.  We are so glad and so lucky to have him!

HEIDI
   Rescued by: Patty, April 2006

Heidi is truly a member of our family.  It is almost like she has been here all along.  She still likes to go for two mile walks every night after dinner, and does not often allow meto slack off.  I had wondered if she would still be as enthusiastic about it when it got cold and rainy, but the weather changes have not yet appeared to phase her.

She refuses to play catch, or fetch, or play with any
toys at all.  She will catch a treat if you toss it to her,
but no balls, toys, won't chase a stick or anything.
I don't think anyone ever played with her before.
She seems like she just doesn't know what to do.

She has finally settled in enough that she will go lay
down on her own, and does not
have to be in constant
human contact as long as she can be in the same room.
She has discovered that she does like the heat from lying
on her bed next to the woodstove almost as much as she
likes Ken's chair.

Zoey (my daughter's Chihuahua) has become Heidi's best doggy friend.  Talk about the odd couple!  The romp and play together, she rolls over and lets Zoey climb over, and they give each other doggy kisses when they think no one is watching.  Teresa has now moved out and took Zoey and Bruiser with her, so Heidi is back to spending her days alone.  But she gets very excited when they come for a visit.

Remember the initial meeting with the cat, Tucker?  Heidi does not chase him now and/or bark upon sight.  She just sits or lays down and watches him as he walks through the room.  We have seen them nose to nose several times, and Tucker has begun to nuzzle her near her ear . . . and Heidi is allowing it!  I am still very skeptical about their relationship.  I watch closely when they are near each other, and still tell Heidi to leave it whether she looks like she is going to move or not.  They still do not get left alone in the house together while we are gone (precautionary measure).

Heidi does still attack the door when anyone knocks or rings the doorbell.  She has scared the heck out of a few people.  She does repsond pretty well to me when I call her away from the door, but not so well if Ken calls her.  I guess she knows who's the boss! At least we are confident that nobody will break into our house (nobody in their right mind anyway).  We are still working on this.

I am taking next week off of work, so we will be getting some more yard time and longer walks. Maybe even a trip to Petsmart.  Thanks for all you do and good luck with your other adoptees!

CHARLIE

    Rescued by: Melissa, 2007

Charlie is doing wonderful!  He has grown quite a bit, but he is still our little baby boy.  I take him for walks every day, he plays in his yard & he loves being with our other boys....especially our wiener dog.  He LOVES playing fetch...basically with anything he can find.  Sometimes I find sticks in the house that he has brought in.  I try to stop him at the door, but sometimes he squeezes by.  :)

My husband, I don't think, could survive without him.  Like I had told you, our Dobie who looked like a Weimaraner, passed away about 5 months ago.  He was the "man" dog, if you know what I mean.  He followed Ryan everywhere....well, guess who has taken his spot.  Charlie follows Ryan everywhere he goes.  I'll look out the window to outside & Charlie is helping him do yard work, looking at flowers, or just walking around the yard.  I have to say, it is the cutest thing.  They are attached at the hip.

The leash issues have gotten much better.  He has been stubborn about learning how to walk on a leash, but he has gotten much better than before.  We continue to work with him every day.  I know you probably won't approve, but he also sleeps with us every night.  He loves to snuggle and love!  He is seriously the most snugly big dog I've ever met.

We have all the dogs on the lamb & rice special food & they are all doing great.  Charlie has had no more redness.  Thank you for making the suggestion.  He is very healthy & happy.  We are so happy that he found us.  It couldn't have come at a better time with just recently losing our Dobie & my Grandpa.  Thank you again for helping us find each other.

SELAVIE
     Rescued by: Liz

Selavie had an unforunate beginning to life.  She was left outside to fend for herself without love or attention.  Fortunately Selavie found Liz, a veterinary student at Oregon State.  Liz adopted Selavie when she had no name and no love in her life.  Now Selavie is living the life she always deserved, full of love and attention.  She is now happily an inside dog, has attended obedience classes, and is a active member of the family.  We worried that Selavie might be a hard dog to find a home for being that she had never been an inside dog.  Thanks to Liz for making Selavie a permanent member of her family!

Alice
Rescued by: Martha Jean, June 2007

I wanted to  tell you how much we enjoy this wonderful Alice (aka Star)!  She is very very sweet--always looks concerned  but very beautiful. We take her in the car with us as she won`t jump out of open windows and does not like to stay at home. You would never (well not quite) recognize her, as her blotted reddish yellow coat is turning to a dark grey --so far mostly around the tail and down her back and her neck. You may remember the dark spots on her thigh- those were the real color of her hair. We give her Omega 3 and missing link daily and you can see the coat improving daily.  She still coughs some but, it is not concerning us as much as she may have an allergy also evidenced by a runny nose sometimes  She is also looking trimmer and a beautiful girl. She also likes to saunder down around the lake with the other dogs.

NORMAN
         Rescued By: Teresa

Norman is doing wonderfully!  He weighed in at 97 pounds on Monday.
I never weighed him when we got him, was his actual weight at that time
115 pounds?  Anyhow, he is awesome and doing well on the raw food,
forming new muscles.  He gets a long off leash run every morning, a walk
at night, and lots of love and affection!

I love dancing with him! He's our 'Normy Norm', just try and take him
from us!  Kasper & Dawson LOVE him, and Norman loves his new pack.
He's very good with Bronte, the weim puppy I watch.  I have to get some
video of him running, he is just so stunning!  I know with his 'jogger issues' he didn't get to run much, but as a dog walker I have found all the secret spots around here.  My favorite spot is up the river which is 5 minutes from here.  There is a huge field and tons of trails down to the water.

Norman sleeps on the bed most nights, but we both agreed that they all must get used to their beds.  Norman loves his bed, so he'll be fine.  I cover them all up with a blanket on cold nights . . . but we usually wake up with them all in our bed!  Thank you for being so wonderful to these dogs.

SUCCESS STORIES

KIWI & HALEY
      Rescued by: Ayana

All is well so far.  We got them on Saturday.  So far everyone is happy with the fit, even Coltrane is happy with the new adjustment.

So far all tails are wagging quite swiftly in our household.  We obviously had to make some changes however . . like removing Coltrane's crate, not letting him sit on the sofa any longer, and the like. They are really sweet dogs though.  One is very quiet, the younger of the two.  The other is a little fiesty and sits like a princess, head held super high and paws crossed.  It's so funny to see how different everyone's personalities are.  Coltrane is still trying to figure out if everyone is around for good and seems to be a little confused, but I think he's enjoying the benefits more playmates bring.

We're taking them to the vet this afternoon to be sure their health is good, as one looks a bit on the chunky side.

SOPHIE
Rescued by: The Sica's, August 2005

My name is Sophie and I used to live in Oregon.  My original owner                                          was a young single mom who fell in love with a cute puppy.  She didn't                                    realize there was a little devil inside waiting to play and have fun.  I                                          must say that I was a holy terror and a handful for a working mom and                                      her kids.  After 9 months it was clear that I needed to find a new home                                      with a family that understood Weimaraner's and their needs.

I was 9 months old when my owner put me
up for adoption.  A nice                                          family from Placerville, California asked about me.  They have a                                                wonderful 3 year old Silver Rain Weim named Bleu and they were                                            looking for a companion for him.  Boy was I lucky! My new mom and     dad, and ofcourse Bleu, came to Oregon in an RV.  I jumped on board and never looked back!

Mom and Dad were very patient with me as I learned my way around.  I received a lot of training and plenty of love.  Bleu is a great brother and is fun to play with.  We have lots of space to run and the weather here is just wonderful!

The picture is from my birthday party on Tuesday, November 28th, 2006.  I am now 2 and loving life.  My name is Sophie Sica and I live in Placerville, California.

WINSTON
   Rescued by: Carolyn & Joe

When we decided to bring a Weim into our family, we didn't know just how wonderful these dogs are.  Since we had specific needs in our family... one being a fluffy Himalayan cat... we didn't think our boy would find us so quickly.  Sergent started out in a military family that moved around a lot.  His first owner was sent to Iraq for an undetermined time, so a second military family graciously took him in.  After a short time, it was clear that Captain (formerly Sergent) wasn't going to fit in with the other male dog in the household.  We met Winston (remaned again) amongst lots of kids of many ages and cats.  He has turned out to be buddies with our cat as well.  Over the past months, Winston has learned many new tricks in obediance.  Some he showed us... so we named one "commando" when he crawls on his belly (in honor of his military history).  He loves to have belly rubs and lie on his back.  We introduced him to dog parks... and he's hooked!  At first he was pretty reserved at the parks.  Now he's showing his true puppiness and jolts out the gate to play for as long as we let him.  Of course, if we take out his tennis ball, he'll take that over playing with a dog.  All in all... Winston has been one the best dogs either I or my husband have had.  We are so grateful for Catherine and Leslie who are extremely dedicated Weim rescuers.  These dogs are blessed to have them finding good homes.

CHELSEA
     Rescued by: Nikki, January 2007

Chelsea has been great so far.  The first night with 2 dogs in the bed was hilarious.  Dianna always waits about 10 minutes before getting under the covers because she wants me to get the bed warmed up first.  But the problem was that by then Chelsea had taken "her spot" which is snuggled up right next to me.  So Dianna begrudgingly snuggled up against my back.  Then the cat decided to join in & slept on top of me.  So I had one dog wedged in behind me & one dog wedged in front of me & the cat on the very top of the pile!  I had to sleep in the same position all night long!

We have had no food issues or territory issues.  Chelsea finished her bowl of food & before I realized it, she wandered over to where Dianna was eating & the 2 of them were eating out of the same bowl!  Of course I put a stop to that right away but it was nice to see that neither one of them exhibited any territorial behaviors.

Last night we had Dianna, Chelsea, a Chihuahua , an Australian shepherd, and a schipperke all over & everyone got along famously!

I have a big pet bed that I got at petco & this morning when I was getting dressed I saw that both of them were curled up together.  it was really cute & I wished I had a camera!
