Bandon is a gorgeous 10 month old male mix (¾ weimaraner ¼ german shorthaired pointer) who is current on his vaccines and microchipped. He is a very smart and obedient boy who sits, downs, stays, has a good recall, knows to stay off furniture, doesn’t jump on people, doesn’t counter surf (mostly), sleeps in his crate at night and quiets when told to be quiet. Prior to going to his foster home Bandon had never seen a cat and at first he was OBSESSED with them, like predator obsessed, but he has figured out that cats are not prey and has settled down with them. As far as other dogs go, he has now met several dogs in the last week and has gotten along with all that are interested in being friends; he met a set that DID NOT want to be his friend and he was very submissive with them. Bandon is house broken, and although he doesn’t love to poop in the rain he’ll do it. For the first week or so in his temporary home he was so used to pottying while leashed that he wouldn’t go without someone going out into the yard with him, but he has now started using the doggie door to take himself out!
Bandon is very much a young and moldable dog, but he has insecurities when it comes to meeting (some) new people or stimuli. What Bandon requires in order to temper his insecurities is a strong owner who understands how to be the pack alpha to keep all of their underlings happy and in check; just like his awesome foster mom has done which has shown so much success in a very short amount of time. You lead, Bandon follows and all is well… this is the key takeaway here. If you fail to lead and Bandon feels obligated to assume the responsibility, you will get a young, 52# dog who is intermittently afraid of new things so he postures, growls and otherwise pretends to be a big bad wolf to keep the "danger" away from him. Bandon likes having a leader, it is what he needs and it is what he will get :)
