Atlas
Atlas is a very handsome 80# one year old male Weimaraner who is happy, healthy, microchipped, current on his vaccines and looking for a new place to call home.

Atlas is very well trained and responds quite reliably to all of his basic commands even when they are coming from his foster parents who he has not known for very long. He is wire crate trained and has been exposed to e-collar training previously. Atlas is very eager to please and is quite the inquisitive soul when it comes to his people and what they are up to. He may be large and tough in stature but he is a big softy on the inside which makes him very easy to train. This sturdy boy has been very tolerant of all manner of poking and prodding from his foster people as they went about inspecting his mouth, ears, paws etc. Additionally, he took a bath like a champ, has a very gentle mouth and loves to snuggle on the bed if allowed. Atlas has successfully lived with a cat previously so we suspect he could be fine with cats moving forward.
The only things to really keep in mind about him are that he is large and he is still very much a young dog so his infrequent mouthing behaviors when he gets really excited are more noticeable and potentially problematic when it comes to children...though he is learning each day that we don't need to use our very big puppy mouth to get anyone's attention :) The other trait to be aware of is that as a 1 year old he is still trying to figure out his role in the pack. Previously his pack was comprised only of people and he was perhaps trying to take charge more than one would want but he didn't really know how or what that meant, in his foster home however he has quickly discovered that he may in fact not be important at all in the eyes of other dogs, which is a realization that has benefitted him greatly and he has shown himself to be quite willing to take a backseat in the doggo hierarchy and follow the lead of the seasoned vets when it comes to navigating life. It is for this last reason that we are only going to be interested in applicants with an existing well established dog in their home. Atlas is and should be a follower, not a leader for the time being.

We expected Atlas to be a voracious fetch aficionado but in our experience to date, he is far more in to chasing around another dog who is retrieving a ball rather than being the fetcher. When he wants to run he can get his big ol paws and thick legs really moving and when he wants to nap he will find somewhere he deems suitable and take a snooze. Relative to other 1 year old Weimaraners he is probably a little less active in general but he is thoroughly enjoying playing with the other Weims on site so it may be that his exercise needs are being met without much active foster mom/dad involvement.

Honestly, we can't say enough good things about this sweet guy and don't expect that we will need to leave his application window open for long. He is housetrained, dog door trained, has shown zero destructive tendencies, has not touched anything which isn't a dog toy or bone and is a big fan of occupying himself with horns and marrow bones.

***Atlas just turned 1 and is still intact. Our standard spay/neuter contract will be in place stating that he must be neutered by 18 months of age and proof of such neutering provided to us. He is a big dog and we would highly recommend waiting until close to that 18 month mark to neuter to allow those growth plates to fully close.
