Opal
NOTE! We originally posted Opal and Bo as available as a pair. However, after a lot of time with them, discussions with trainers and time working with both dogs, we concluded each one will grow and learn to be a confident zen dog with a new dog companion leading the way.
IF you submitted an application or an email of interest regarding just Bo or Opal, we will move your application to that dog’s file for review and consideration. No need to resubmit an application.
Opal:
Opal is lovely and a special girl for sure. She is everything we love about this breed in a small package! She can be feisty, she can be calm and she is always loving.
Opal is about 8 months old - yes, still a puppy! She was recently spayed, and is microchipped, up to date on vaccines and weighs about 40lbs. Opal is house trained, crate trained, good with heel when on leash and knows the commands sit, down and touch, and she’s learning “wait” and “leave it”.
Opal loves meeting new people in the home or in public, and has met youngsters as well. She doesn’t guard toys or food from people or dogs and you can pick her up, touch her ears, mouth or tail - she does not care. Although she still has a lot of puppy energy and curiosity, she is quiet in the home and calmly joins her person at the door when someone knocks (keep your alarm system!).
Opal has a maturity about her at times and then she will suddenly become a juvenile and look for things to grab, jump up on you or use her mouth (gently) to get your attention. She likes to chew her toys, so sturdy toys are best (think Kong). She loves to cuddle with her dog mate, but also wants to wrestle and can get a little carried away, so her dog companion will need to have some tolerance for this behavior as well as a desire to play with her. And, when walking on leash next to a calm and perhaps indifferent dog, Opal is a dream to walk and will pass dog after dog without any concern. She needs guidance but is quick to pick up on the rules of the game.
While Opal has met children and is very good with them, we do not recommend little kids (under age 9) in the home due to having no history of her living with children.
If you are interested in adopting Opal, please submit an application, or let us know of your interest and that you have an application on file.
