Zara

Meet Zara! This 60lb. Weimaraner is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Zara is about 5 years old, intact, current on vaccines, microchipped and weighs about 60lbs. She has had a full work up at the vet and is in good health. In fact the vet was surprised by her age thinking she was no more than 3 or 4 years old.  Zara has two pressure sores on her “sit bones” that you might see in the photos; these are from spending long periods of time sitting on a hard surface such as concrete. They do not cause Zara any discomfort.

This sweet girl is an easy keeper, all she just wants is love. She is going to make someone smile and feel the warmth of her kindness every day. Zara will follow her people from room to room, but not in a frantic way, she just enjoys being around people. That being said, she needs to live with people who are patient with her need for attention and are okay with her being in their space.

She has not been raised with children, but at frequent family gatherings she was with a lot of people of all ages and was comfortable with everyone. In the home, we recommend children be age 6 or older due to her lack of familiarity living with babies and littles.

Zara is good with other dogs, large and small. She doesn’t necessarily seek them out for play, but is comfortable sharing space and activities with them.  When she moved to her foster home, one of the two Weimaraners wasn’t thrilled with her being there and she didn’t even notice (he decided to like her after 48 hours of her invasion).  Zara has never lived with a cat so we do not recommend putting her with one.

Zara is crate trained and while she was not happy about sleeping in her crate in a different room than everyone, she has adjusted pretty quickly. And we believe she will be fine left in the house with a dog friend and will not get into trouble. She does not chew anything that is not hers, but does like to chew on her toys and bones.

Zara’s favorite things are, riding in the car, chasing a ball (and sometimes running off to chew on it), going on runs (she is a great jogging partner), going on dog walks, and being loved. She would like to counter surf if you let her ;).  And her least favorite thing is going potty in the rain.  She’ll do it but she’s quick about it!

Zara will need to be spayed sometime after mid-May (her last season was mid-March). OWR will cover up to $800 of the cost associated with the spay surgery, paid directly to the adopter’s chosen clinic.

If you are interested in Zara, please submit an adoption application or let us know of your interest if we already have your application on file.
