Charlie

Meet Charlie!  Charlie is a wonderful 9-month-old ½ Weimaraner ½ Xoloitzcuintli (aka Xolo, pronounced “sho-low”). The Xolo is an AKC recognized breed originally from Mexico. They can be hairless or with hair; Charlie’s Mom was a purebred Xolo “with hair” and his Dad was a large purebred Weimaraner. A unique combination of two loving and active breeds!

Charlie is a sweet, smart, and focussed youngster who loves being with people and being active. It’s hard to believe this big guy (almost 90 lbs) is still a “puppy”, but he’ll remind you every once in a while when he grabs the toilet paper roll! He is silly but wants to be a good boy and he earns commands quickly. He is fully potty trained, knows Sit, Lay Down, Come, Kennel, and Leave It. He walks okay on leash (front clip harness) with occasional reminders not to pull.

Charlie is very friendly with everyone.  He gets excited when family comes home and although he sometimes jumps as a way of greeting he is learning not to. What Charlie really needs is to get out and enjoy a good run or dog walk every day to burn some energy. He is spending several hours each day in his crate and not getting out to let it out! But due to changes in work schedules and other unexpected demands, his people are not able to provide the exercise and attention he needs.

Charlie is a wonderful family dog. He enjoys being around children (age 10 or over is best due to his size) and he loves playing with any dog he meets - whether it’s a neighbor dog walking by, or a new friend at the dog park. He will do really well with a new “sibling” pup for play and to keep him company when left alone.  And while he has never met a really small dog, he lives with two cats - Charlie wants to play with the cats but they are not interested; they will swat at him or just walk away - game over.

Charlie enjoys chewing on his toys and playing his form of Fetch! (sometimes he brings the ball back, sometimes he doesn't). He loves car rides and going places with his people. And after all the fun, he will take a power nap and snuggle with anyone that is available.

Charlie is current on his vaccines and will need to be neutered and microchipped after he is adopted which the rescue will cover.
